Review von MissMary /tha:

Okay. Review time.

OMG.

Those words were the words that I think I must have said hundreds of times today/tonight. I... just, can't believe any of this. I am still kinda wandering in a daze. And there were no other words to describe it all.

I am warning you, it's all kind of one big blur right now. So this could be kinda...odd.

So, my cousin and I got to the venue around 11:30 this morning, and we were probably about 60-80 people back in the line. There was a burst of people who came as we did and then there wasn't much for awhile. We met Vnlasteamer, who was holding her place at the front of the line- well deserved, if I do say so myself.

We wandered around for a bit after having our new friends hold our place in line (whoever said that you very quickly make friends in line is completely right). And then we settled in for the wait. Not too much for me to bore you with, except we really did hear about a girl who was apparently in the tree near where the coach was stopped. Whether it actually happened or not, I really do not know. It's amusing, nonetheless. The coach did pull up once to the venue and everyone started screaming and carrying on until they all realized that the boys were certainly not getting off. It was waaay too early for that to be happening, but hope prevails, of course.

Several hours and as many doses of caffeine later, we finally saw the one coach pull around the corner and we all kind of semi-dismissed it, because of the false alarm earlier. Until we noticed the SECOND bus pull around the corner behind it. We all immediately knew that the boys were gonna go in to the venue and so it was a stampede for the hastily erected barriers between us and the boy's path to the venue.

Side note: my cousin and I nearly died laughing after we realized that the coach idling around the corner WAS indeed theirs. Laughing, because we had walked past it earlier and my cousin totally tripped and went flying right in front of it. So, hopefully no one witnessed that.

After proceeding to spill hot coffee on myself trying to glimpse the boys walking into the venue and not actually seeing anything (we are both around 5'2'' and everyone was far taller than we were), we settled down for awhile, talking to the various THA members who were passing by (Charlotte, those nametags were genius!) and having a great time meeting everyone. Tobi walked past where we were sitting once and I went and simply stared as he walked past. It was starting to sink in to my brain that in a few hours, I'd be seeing TH live.

Fast forward through the last hour of waiting in the line and we were being patted down, having our tickets scanned and walking up the carpeted staircase of the Fillmore to the second floor. No, there was no "fast lane" in use; somehow, I think that the (very awesome, btw) Fillmore security understood that there would be a mass revolt if this line happened.

We were extremely lucky when we walked into the the hall, because we were about 3rd row, directly in front of where Tom stands. Of course, then we get to wait for an hour, get to know the people around you, apologize that "no, I didn't mean to feel you up, sorry." Of course, there were some roadies having fun poking hands out from between the curtains and playing with guitars, hyping up the crowd. All sorts of chaotic screaming ensue; the usual.

Also as per the usual, the concert started at about 10 after nine, a bit late.

At that moment, I couldn't even tell you how I felt. That opening riff of Break Away and the curtain going up and just seeing Tom right in front of me was overwhelming. I am pretty sure I stopped breathing for a few seconds after I realized that it wasn't all some sick fantasy and I was really seeing them with my own eyes. I've been dreaming of it for a long time, what can I say?

To be honest, the entire show is a bit of a blur for me. A whirlwind of me screaming "OMG" louder than I have ever screamed in my life. Only a few bits really stand out to me right now, though I'm sure once I've had time to digest this all, I will be able to remember more detail.

After Break Away was over and Bill stripped off the black leather jacket he was wearing (also wearing Diesel jeans, black studded collar, MJ black glove and a black graphic tee that I didn't recognize) we moved onto Final Day.

I do have to mention that I never really believed people when they come back from the shows and say that Bill is as gorgeous as expected, Tom really takes the cake in person. I have to strongly agree with this now. I was watching him during BA, but of course, I had to check Bill out. I swear, I was wishing for a second pair of eyes and a third hand to hold a camera to capture it all. But then during Final Day, when the twins and Geo start jumping it was all I could do to keep moving and not just stand there and stare at Tom.

He's breathtaking.

The smirks, the smiles, the dreads flying everywhere, the stomping around and the rocking the f*** out just had me wanting to melt into a puddle at his feet. I spent most of the concert staring at him after that. (He was wearing black tees, black hat and jeans, but I couldn't see the jeans properly)

Stage banter then, though I never actually heard much of what Bill said, simply because the screaming was drowning his talking out. Come to think of it, even during the songs sometimes the screaming was drowning him out. I was a little disappointed in that; I come to hear him sing, not to hear others screaming off tune into my ear. Of course, then came 1000 Oceans, and I called Miraka during that one, so she can (hopefully) attest to it being a great addition to the setlist.

Okay, this is getting uber long, so I'll continue this in another post.

tokiohotel4ever / tha:

The concert was AMAZING!!!! bill looked great with his all black hair, and tommy, georg, and gusti, were all wonderfull as well!!!!!! also there was a different song order, which was really cool! il post some pics i took in a little. my cousin (who i was there with) caught georg's pic!!! *snickers at charlotte* it was awsome! i was right in the front, and i swear bill looked at me (or in my general direction) a couple of time! there was some fan action trying to get them to play reden for the encore, but they played rette mich and durch den monsun, which i was fine with. anyways, altogether, it was a great concert, and i think my favorite!

--------

mimas / tha:

I'm back! So much fun!!! I had the best time meeting people from the forum. My friend is thinking of joining now- she thought everyone she met were really cool.

The Fillmore was great-beautiful and we had air conditioning! It still got really hot but you could feel the cool air. Lots of pushing and shoving. I think it's the roughest crowd so far.

The concert was amazing. Bill was on fire! Just all twinkily and amazing- my friend finally understands the Bill thing! Gustav was super cute and very animated tonight. Georg did this leaning on the amp and checkin out the girls thing during one of Bill's speeches. We got the Live Every Second guitar hump. SF FTW!!! Bill went over to Tom and put his hand on his shoulder and the crowd went nuts- so Tom repeated the riff to extend the screaming and Bill looked at him and laughed, very cute moment.

Charlotte's hair was RED and she got to the second row in front of Tom. Any claims she makes about the boys looking at her I will fully back up- that hair was bright-you could spot her from across the venue!

So many stories, I'm sure everyone else can fill in the blanks. I just wanted to put this up before I'm off to Anahiem and Vegas!

Miss Mary - die Fortsetzung:

Okay, continuing here.

Love Is Dead was amazing, I just can't remember anything special that happened during it. I do remember Bill doing that big bright smile, but he was doing that all over the place; he could have lit up the entire room given the chance. However, by this time, my cousin and I had gotten separated and I was dragged back about 4 or 5 rows, while she managed to get closer- second row, in front of Tom. She said he licked his lipring at her. I am insanely jealous, of course, but it's all good.

Then, the good stuff came. The tech handed Tom the white flying V, and I screamed louder than I ever thought I was capable of. I was trying to call another of my friends who wasn't able to get down here so she could hear her favourite song, but I was having issues trying not to drop my phone with all of the girls who had suddenly decided that yes, my neck was a fiiiine place to rest their elbows. :( Being short blows at a TH show; there is no arguing that one.

Anyways, fast forward to the part where Tom and Geo switch places onstage. I was keeping an eye on Tom, because I knew that he might decide to "dance" with that pretty guitar. And good thing I did; because he not only lifted it up, but did do the proper "dance" with it. I think I may have injured my friend's hearing by screaming into the phone "OMG TOM IS HUMPING HIS GUITAR!" Yes, it was that freaking exciting.

Monsoon wasn't as epic for me as I expected it to be. I was really looking forward to it, it is THE song for me- the reason I am a fan now. But I couldn't tell you what went on during it for the life of me. I was simply standing back and soaking it all in by this point, since I'd been shoved near to the middle of the crowd where there was a bit of a lull and I could breathe.

I just did remember something though- Tom, of course. Right when the distortion really comes in with the guitars, all I could see was him. Like I said, I kinda developed Tom tunnel vision during this show. I can't get him outta my head, but that is another story completely, eh? Anyways, he was just rocking out on his guitar, and it felt like there was nothing in the world for him at that moment except him and the instrument, with that look of concentration on his face and...well, what better way can I put it other than what looked to me to be pure happiness.

I now see why they do what they do; it's simple. It's because they love it. You can see it in Bill's face when he's staring out at the crowd and he still looks absolutely amazed to be there, and when Tom's rocking out. Unfortunately, I didn't really see too much of Geo or Gusti, simply because I was on the wrong side for Geo and too short to get much more than a few glimpses of Gusti behind the green drum kit and because I was too busy staring at another.

Black, Scream, Don't Jump (the normal speech- believe in life, etc etc, don't jump.) and then Raise Your Hands Together. Now, during RYHT, I was blown away AGAIN. I had forgotten that Tom sings during this song, and so when I saw him step up to the mic, I nearly did actually fall over. When the boy got that smirk on his face again, well. It is enough for me to say that I think I could die happy now, I think. So good.

Ready, Set, Go! was great- you can tell immediately that even the non- uber fans know this song, because the venue absolutely echoed with it. And then during one of the lulls between the verse and chorus, Bill sauntered over to Tom (with a big smile on his face, because he knows what this does to the girls, of course) and put his hand on his shoulder. Then, he whispered something into Tom's ear and kinda laughed/giggled just before his part came in.

Yet another point in the show where I am convinced I stopped breathing. It's just too easy to forget basic function when the Kaulitz twins are doing their thing right in front of you.

Of course, then comes By Your Side, which was immesurably sweet. I don't know why I have that impression, but that's the only way to describe it. Plus, it was another where the entire venue simply echoed with voices singing along. It's an amazing thing live.

Rescue Me was done acoustic, as usual. I was deciding whether or not to book it out of the crowd at that point, because I was starting to get dizzy and overheated. That would be why I don't remember much other than marvelling at the things Bill does to his mic stand. I really would love to die and be reincarnated as that mic stand, as someone else once said.

And then the very end, Durch Den Monsun. I realized that this was it, and it was over, so I put everything I had into this last song. I was kind of interested to see the change in Bill when he is singing in German. It just came across more natural; as it should. I don't mean to say he doesn't pull of English as good as any native speaker. He does. It's just that when he started belting out the chorus to DDM, it was...I don't know. Like everything was how it all should be; him singing in German and us screaming it back at him.

By the end of that song, I was rocking out harder than I had all night and also happier than I can describe!

Nothing prepared me for the mass chaos that occurs when the boys throw their stuff out though. I nearly had Tom's water bottle, but some random girl half jumped on top of me and snatched it, so I backed off and let her fight for it. I didn't want it THAT badly. Half of the crowd went down with Bill's towel, and then I finally got my first really good look at Gusti all night. He came out from behind to chuck his sticks and water, and then did a mini-wave.

Then, lights up and the stampede for the exit. I called Miraka to say I survived and then proceeded down the stairs, collecting a free poster on the way (everyone got one, they're pretty cool, says Tokio Hotel, has the venue, date and some random design on it) and went to wait outside on the sidewalk for the boys to board their coach.

I didn't see much other than the back of their heads, but I waved and screamed just as loud as anyone else there as they pulled away. My cousin and I then said goodbye to everyone and walked back to our hotel, freaking out loudly on the way.

Annnd that's it, really. I hope I didn't bore you too much with this, because I tend to get wordy at times.

The crowd, overall, was okay. I mean, I wouldn't say that it was terrible, but I will say that I've been in much nicer, more respectful crowds at punk shows. There is at least, a sort of unwritten code of honour at those shows; here it was a free for all, every man(or woman) for himself/herself.

I wish it hadn't gone by so fast, but it was definitely worth taking the trip down to this amazing city. All I can think about right now is when I'll get to see them again. Everyone should get to see them live, because the pictures and videos just don't do them justice.

And now I am going to go collapse. Goodnight, all!

Charlotte von tha:

changed my mind on the review, I'm too tired to be coherent. I'll do it tomorrow.

I am not on my own laptop so I don't have links to example photos, but Bill was wearing this GoldMarie belt with matching choker and bracelet, as well as the fleur de lis cross necklace that he wore in the Monsoon music video. His jeans were medium-wash Diesel, and he wore his metal-toed boots. (I think he wore those for the Monsoon EMA performace). I hadn't seen his t-shirt before but I'm pretty sure it was gray with a vine/snakes patter and I think skulls. It may have been kinda purple as well. >.>

Gustav arrived wearing a red t-shirt but during the show he wore this..dark gray (?) t-shirt that had a kind of ribcage pattern on it. (Not the shirt from the Collier Schorr/ID Magazine shoot). No idea on Georg, and Tom was wearing two black t-shirts (don't remember the design), a black SF Giants baseball cap () and the jeans with the kind of sunburst pattern on the back pockets. For shoes he wore his white sneakers with the velcro flap. Unfastened, of course.

Oh, and I can say with pride that I was not converted to Georg-fanism by seeing him in person. I feel the same way about him as I always did.

I didn't have anything on me (besides 15$ stuffed in my sock) and it was great. I didn't have to think about holding on to my belongings or losing anything. If you can manage to go without a purse/cellphone/etc, do it.

One of the most epic moments of the show: Watching Bill's face when the stage was dark in the middle of...Monsoon(? I think? Maybe.). Such a big grin and absolutely thrilled.

Review von Vnlasteamer / tha:

I don't know what's been said the last hundred pages or so since I last wrote... anyway I'm tired so that's for later.

The concert...

My first! And, it was emotionally blinding. So of course I camped out for a week, with Kayla and Sierra and Marie (cool girl from Germany who joined us) for some of that time, and I was the first in line... I don't really want to wash the number off my hand for a few days. So we had our pick of places, and I had wanted three feet left of center, and Marie wanted Tom, so we went together and were in a perfect place exactly what we both wanted. The stage was small so we always had lots of bombardment - yeah. So we were up on the barrier, and I wasn't uncomfortable except the time some sad little girl had to be extricated over my head. But other than that we anchored our feet to the ground and our elbows to the barrier, and there was no violence or groping, just incredibly close contact with everyone around and not exactly easy to breathe, but not impossible either. Hot but not unbearable. And when the show started. god.... the curtain fell and there he was. (bill, duh, it's all about him... for now) we saw them go from the tourbus to the back stairs, but that was for like a second, at a distance - though even that, my first glimpse of him occupying my three dimensional reality, was pretty mindblowing and reduced me to shaking and disbelieving wonder. But then the curtain fell, and he was right there in front of me, existing. And Bill glitters. Really, I've never seen a human being do the things with light that he does. The lights are all around them, and shining off his hair and clothing, and his eyes (he locked eyes and sang to me for some kind of seconds amount that I have no idea because obviously my sense of time went completely haywire in there, when he said 'this is the last song' i honestly thought at first he was playing with us, because it felt like maybe the third song and no way time for the encore... but it was true) because of the reflected light and the eye makeup and the color of his own eyes (they really are that color of brown in the photos that looks like it's glowing and warm! i thought that was retouched) create this sense of focused, diamond-hard radiance. When he sang to me I didn't want to waste the moment by losing my head and just gaping, so I tried to keep my eyes locked with his and in some kind of a meaningful expression. It was hard. I've never seen a more intense pair of eyes. Yeah, all the dvds and youtubes and thtvs and everything else, completely and ridiculously failed to prepare me for him... god... I tried so hard to watch Tom and Georg and Gustav as well, succeeded more with Tom because we were so near him, but it really wasn't possible for me to look at anything other than Bill for very long. aaahhh bbbrrrr it was just... yeah. so there he is, and what else? the fanaction was actioned pretty well (screaming 'reden' over and over in unison during the encore pause) but failed to produce any results i.e. them playing Reden. Marie and I both landed bras on the foot pedal paraphernelia that Tom uses (not on the pedal, but beside) while Bill was singing to Tom. I wanted to touch Bill's hand, obviously - and he did that twice, with other girls, and sat down on the very edge of the stage twice, once sitting with legs over, once kneeling adorably. But no hand ... maybe next time. Anyway it was amazing and hard to take in the concert because there was such a visual assault and plus at times we completely drowned out Bill, but that's what Vegas is for - maybe I can grasp what's happening a little better. Maybe.

afterwards! the stage hand picked up a pick lying on the stage and handed it to Marie, it was signed by tom on the back, so that was cool - and we stayed and got ahold of the set list they tape to the stage, we were going to cut it in half but it was wet and coming apart in tears so she kept it as whole as possible. we got the soldout Fillmore posters... nice to have although the artwork has nothing whatsoever that I can see to do with Tokio Hotel. cooler were the free Scream coverart posters we got before the show, in line. got buttons from the roadtrip girls in line, but then I totally forgot about the merch table in the rush of getting from our waiting inside the venue, to the stairs to get the posters, and then waiting for the guys to get in their tourbus and chasing the tourbus and saying goodbye to people and walking back to the hostel... so I thought it was all over, then Marie texts me (her father picked her up and they followed the boys in a rental car) and says no, the guard lied, they're not going straight to anaheim, they're stopping at a hotel first to shower or what have you. So I mapquest walking directions at the hostel, and then run at high speed to the hotel, where 5 of us waited and waited for the boys to come out... so Gustav came out and signed our posters (Tobi was like, NO PHOTOS, in fact he was kind of a hardass in general, because that girl who climbed in the window in LA? she was there, and he was pissed at her and yelled at her about pushing a female secu when she climbed in, so he was uptight and probably the stuff that followed had something to do with that - because we were only 5, and not making any noise or anything - no danger) and I somehow missed Georg entirely, but he was walking behind Gustav with, apparently, his hair in a strange ponytail. Then we waited for ages more, and then Tobi brings an enormous luggage rack out and Tom in an enormous sweatshirt with hood up, giant beanie underneath, I don't remember seeing his eyes so maybe sunglasses or maybe he was just hiding his face, walks by on the OTHER side of the luggage rack, no words or glance, just past and into the bus. We didn't make any noise or say anything, because we figured if that's how they want it we would leave them alone ... but yeah. And then Bill came - I was totally hoping I could get him to sign my hand, or ANYTHING really, but although we sort of moved to be in a better angle, Tobi just moved us away and Bill came through, hair down but I think under a cap or hood, wearing his Tokio Hotel sweatshirt and looking beautiful from what I could see of him - he was actually pulling the top of either his sweatshirt or maybe jacket up to hide his face, and walked past silently. I'm hoping that either he was really tired, or scared of the crazy girl, and not just sad or filled with deep resentment of our presence at the hotel. but it was kind of disappointing. Anyway we waved and smiled after the tourbuses anyway... watched them turn south towards the freeways. Then Marie piled in her car to follow them to Anaheim (but she has to fly out before the show) and I walked and caught a bus back to the hostel. Where I am now, kind of in a funk because the show was so amazing, but over so fast, and seeing them, whether it's onstage or outside the venue or at the hotel, reminds you both of how awe-inspiring their presence is, and also how completely unattainable and removed from the fans they are by necessity... fortunately I have Vegas to look forward to, although I haven't been there lining up (accordng to Fillmore secus the Vegas secus say that fans have been lining up OUTSIDE the Mandalay for days and days now, despite the ban on lining up inside) and don't know how all the tricky purchase-tricks are going to work out, so there's definitely no front-row guarantee for this one, anyway yeah... but it would be hard to see them live for the first time and then just fly back to Seattle. Because it's just too much emotional experience to contain in one evening - there has to be a chance to understand it more, so that a concert feels like a band playing music and not like a heart-stopping, mind-freezing, torpedo of insane worship and noise overlaid with threads of terror at the sheer perfection of what you see.... maybe that's a better thing though? I don't want to get jaded. Anyway it was amazing, and writing this obscenely long confusion of words has helped work me out of my funk, so that maybe I can collapse and sleep a little.
