We raised the stakes high on the 2007 VMAs when we took over the Palms Casino and Hotel in Las Vegas. But for the 2008 VMAs, we're doing it bigger and better -- and did we mention bigger? -- than ever before.

The VMAs have never been, nor will they ever be your conventional speech-smile-pause-applause award show. Instead, in addition to honoring the best videos in any given year, the VMAs have hosted some of the most unforgettable live performances in pop culture history: Madonna's 1983 "Like a Virgin" stage-humping routine, her Vogueing in straight-up, throwback Victorian gear, and her infamous make-out session with Britney Spears, Nirvana live (!!!), t.A.t.U (seriously -- it happened in 2003 -- look it up), Marilyn Manson's electrifying rendition of "The Beautiful People," Christina Aguilera and Limp Bizkit, the army of Eminems, U2 in 2001, Britney and the snake, Puffy and Sting's tribute to Biggie, Guns N' Roses, Beyoncé's descent from the ceiling, NSYNC sharing the stage with Michael Jackson, and Chris Brown and Rihanna's jaw-dropping duet from just last year.

And then there's the unforgettable must-see moments: Michael Jackson shoving his tongue down then-wife Lisa Marie Presley's throat and simultaneously gagging the collective viewing public, Prince in ass-less pants, Fiona Apple's agro assault on the audience, Triumph the Insult Comedy Dog's attempt to sniff J. TOKIO HOTEL GETS A VMA UPGRADE!



No, don’t worry. Tom didn’t shave his head. The latest update from VMA HQ here inside the Crosby Building at the Paramount is that Tokio Hotel will be presenting an award at the 2008 VMAs! Viva la Deutschland, y’all!

Also, another little tidbit McNugget for you: Tokio Hotel is going to be pulling up to the VMA red carpet in a most outlandish set of wheels. No, not a Maybach. Think American… Very American… And it’s not the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile, though that could be the greatest image ever.

Bentley coupe, Phantom Rolls, Maybach, stretch limo? Those cars will never be played out, but they've been done time and time again. If you want to stick out when arriving at the VMAs, you have to do it in style, but you also have to be different. It's not just about what you wear on the red carpet, it's also about how you got there. This year we had a few guests that made sure nobody would forget their initial appearance.

In the old days, wearing plain old black-and-white was so funereal. Done incorrectly, you either looked like Morticia Adams, or else a cross between Pirates of the Caribbean and the soloist from your high school chorus. But celebs these days seem to understand there’s a pretty big gray area between chic and geek. Tonight’s polychromatic standouts include the Jonas Brothers, Tila Tequila, Lindsay Lohan, Lil Wayne and Tokio Hotel’s Bill Kaulitz, who gets double-props for making sure his hair totes matched his outfit.

Trend: Vest to Impress
And last but not least, another menswear trend sweeping the carpet this evening: the vest. Cupkitty found this interview for us. It has a shout out to the Scandinavian fans. Bill to the camera: “Hello Scandinavian fans, thank you so much for your support and see you at the next Tokio Hotel tour!” It is in English, but Coolbreezegirl also made a transcript for everyone since we know that sometimes the accents are making the English harder to understand for some of you and you want to translate! Enjoy!

MTV: So the VMA is just around the corner..Are you excited?
Bill: Really excited, and really, really nervous. I didn’t sleep anything last night. It was just terrible. I was just thinking about everything. And…yeah, we’re proud to be nominated and to be there.
MTV: And if you win how will you celebrate?
Bill: I think we’ll celebrate anyway…
Tom: Yeah, you know for us it’s good to be nominated so we’ll celebrate anyway. ..
Bill & Tom (at the same time): …the nomination…
Tom: Yeah the nomination. We celebrate the nomination.
Bill: yes
Tom: because you know we have no big chance…It’s good to be here. Our part is very small you know. Bill’s nervous about..you know just about red carpet.
Bill: (giggles) I’m nervous just to be there
MTV: I’ll be nice to you guys on the red carpet. If you promise to talk to me.
Georg: Thank you very much.
MTV: I often..actually every week I get emails about you from my viewers. Sometimes they are very nice sometimes they are not very nice. Usually they are very nice. usually they are like “Please I wanna see more of TH” and sometimes it is “Why the F do you not show more videos?”. I would like to know, is this something you urge your fans to do or is it soemthing that just happens?
Bill. It just happens. I think it just happens.
MTV: But why only with you? Why do you have such hardcore fans?
Bill: I don’t know. We’re just proud of them…I have no reason for that……
Tom: we have the best fans in the world….and you know, we…
Bill: If i take a look at Georg I don’t know…
Tom: Yeah…
Bill: I don’t know but it is great…We go there and we’re proud of our fans and everything

MTV: Cause I want the same kind of fans but they are not…
Tom. I think you have, you have good fans
Bill: I mean our fans…
MTV: Could we be eachothers’ fans now?
(everyone babbling over eachother so I don’t think they hear the reporter)
Bill. I think our fans are the best fans in the world, so noone else can have(?) them.
MTV: So you’re nervous for tomorrow… how will you prepare for your thing tomorrow?
Bill. I need some sleep so I’ll go early to bed…and..yeah sleeping, and chilling at the pool.
Tom: Reading, eating, relaxing and stuff like that¨
MTV: When are you coming to Scandinavia?
Bill: I don’t know. I mean our schedule is very very full and our trip is very long in America and it was not planned so after this we go back directly back to Germany and to the studio and we’ll record new stuff and everything for the next record, and we’re still at the creative process so we have a lot of stuff to do and yeah…
Tom: For the next tour I think we definitely will come over and play some concerts and stuff like that.
MTV: Thank you. They’ll be much nicer to me after hearing this.

I just got home from the VMA's. Oh my god, it was so beautiful. I was seated across the stage from Tokio Hotel and I could watch them the whole time. Mostly I could see Bill, of course. He did sit next to his brother of course. It was Tobi and the other blonde lady, I don't know her name, then Natalie, then Bill (Bill spent much of the time talking to Natalie and laughing), then Tom, then Gustav, then Georg and the one guy that's always with them, I don't know his name. Bill looked so nervous! Then the moment came. Bill was so stunned, he covered his mouth and his eyes were so wide... I was about 20 feet right in front of where they accepted the award. I yelled "I love you, Tom!" but you could barely hear it. Bill looked about to cry. I was happy for them. The girls I was sitting with had never heard of them (as well as most of the people there) but they clapped and screamed with me, they were such good sports!

Then in the commercial break they walked down the aisle like 6 feet from me and we clapped and cheered for them, they looked so happy.

Then I had to move (they move you when someone assigned to that seat arrives) but I didn't care because I'd seen them win! I ended up a few rows back from them on their side, and I got to watch them walk out. They left only a few minutes after they got back in their seats.

They were beautiful. I'm so proud.

Okay. Finally back. What a crazy-ass day! Some of what happened:

We were right on the red carpet, great view of everything but in direct sunlight and under huge 1000 degree lights. Had to have sweated out 90% of my bodily fluids over the course of the day. They were playing lame music while they were getting set up. All of the sudden we heard RSG. Then we heard it again. Then we heard it AGAIN. Couldn't figure out what the heck was going on...then we saw THE TRUCK pull up. Holy Crap, how to describe a combination of heart failure, bladder failure and brain failure? But that's what it felt like to see them up there. IT WAS REALLY LOUD!! We could see Tom holding on to Bill. He was holding himself steady, not holding Bill up or steadying Bill. The boys farthest from the speakers didn't have anything to hold onto so it was "TH buddy system for safety." After they jumped out the truck had to turn away and the speakers were facing the red carpet and then RSG got SUPERSONIC loud...like bleeding eardrums loud. It was pretty darn great.

They were amongst the first to arrive. A little early IMO...but whatevers. We were cheering for them when then got to the first row of media, about 15 feet away...and they all turned to look at us, smile and wave. Uh, we were as loud as we could be...all four of us. We didn't have any other TH folks in our area. There may have been TH fans in other sections but we didn't hear them. After they finished the second row of media they came right towards us and we got to hoot and holler again. They were about 3-5 feet away, smiling and waving at us again. Tom and Bill did look a teensy bit nervous but Georg was pulling his usual Rico Suave smirk. Gustav just seemed to be doing his usual great job of trying to "fade" into background. TH did not stop to shake hands and talk with us/folks in our area like some other celebs did (pink, rhianna, Lindsey, Jonas Brothers, kid rock, PCD, etc). Tobi was sporting a full on SUIT...by far the most formal guy in the whole group - practically the most formal guy we saw all day. And he had a secret service type earpiece - bumping up his profile I guess.

Anywho, from that point forward we had to deal with a bunch of annoying dumbass people screaming at dog whistle pitch level for Jordin Sparks and Jonas Brothers but we didn't care that much because we had done our job!

From that point we were moved to various part of the lot for different concerts. We ended up in an area on the backlot for the Kanye West concert. We were there the longest and got to watch some of the awards live on huge screens...that's when they were playing RSG and Monsoon for the crowd during some of the commercial breaks. We were there for the BNA presentation and were jumping up and down and screaming when they won...once again, the only four in the area to be going APESHIT over TH.

But I guess we'll be hearing from all the brand-spanking new apeshit TH fans tomorrow, by that I mean all those crap people around us who weren't helping us squeee it up for TH today.
